About Us

  • How it Started

The Gettin’ Place was founded by Southern content creator and humorist Matt Mitchell. After years of helping design and market merchandise elsewhere, he grew frustrated with how little priority was given to using local makers and small businesses. If you’re going to celebrate the South, you ought to practice what you preach. That conviction led to The Gettin’ Place—a store that keeps as much of the business as possible right here at home.

  • What's in a Name?

Ask a Southerner, “Where’d you get that from?” and the answer is almost always the same: “I got it from my gettin’ place.” We wanted to pay homage to that classic Southernism, which is why our tagline is “Where Southerners Get It.” It’s not just about where Southerners get their favorite goods—it’s also filled with the kind of inside jokes and shared knowledge only Southerners truly get.

  • Who We Are

The Gettin’ Place is proudly a family operation. Lisa Mitchell, Matt's wife, helped get the store off the ground in October 2022 and continues to work with vendors and makers to bring unique Southern-made products to the shop. Matt’s parents, Brenda and Charles, handle fulfillment and customer service with the same care they’d give a neighbor. And we collaborate with talented Southern artists—many of whom we’ve known for years—to create designs rooted in authentic regional culture.

  • Where We've Been

Our products may be designed with Southerners in mind, but they’ve traveled far beyond the region. We’ve shipped orders to all 50 states and even to U.S. military stations around the world. No matter where our packages land, they carry a piece of home with them.

  • Where We're Going

The Gettin’ Place is just getting started. Our goal is to become the premier destination for Southern-made goods on the internet, carefully curating every item to ensure the quality and craftsmanship meet our standards. As we continue to grow, we’ll expand our offerings and collaborations with independent Southern artists and makers. One day, we hope to open a brick-and-mortar storefront—but for now, this is your online Gettin’ Place.
